Garry Elgear was born and raised in Port Coquitlam. After school, Garry pursued a career in automotive and commercial transport repairs but soon realized that he wanted to change his career path and purchased the fishing store that he worked at when he was younger when it went up for sale. He owned a fly and tackle shop for numerous years before shutting down and switching his career path to irrigation and landscaping. Garry currently lives in Maple Ridge with his wife Erika and their two young children.

Garry is an avid environmentalist and is responsible for organizing numerous river clean ups which have attracted hundreds of volunteers. In addition he sat on the Coquitlam River Watershed board. Due to his activism he received numerous environmental awards from the cities of Port Coquitlam and Coquitlam. He was also was honoured with the prestigious Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2013.

These days, in his spare time, you can find Garry gardening or out on the water. Garry enjoyed being a small business owner and has decided to return to this as he enjoys working for himself and his customers.
